God Is Pro-Body

“The Lord is for the body and the body is for the Lord.” 1 Cor. 6:13

You cannot seperate the spiritual from the physical. Most of the time we just hear the second part of that verse, that “the body is for the Lord” and we miss the first part that “the Lord is for the body.”  The Lord is pro-body. He gave you a body and what you do with it physically is going to effect your marriage, family, and ministry. If I don’t physically train without a doubt I slip into depression which hurts my wife, kids, and ministry.

Here’s an example of how this works. If you don’t sleep you become irritable and lack patience. Wait a second I thought patience was a fruit of the Spirit but it seems like it’s a fruit of sleep? Dig deeper; if you’ve worked your fingers to the bone and are stressed out drinking red bulls just to make it through your day and watching tv until the late hours of the night, it reveals that you lack humility. You’ve been playing God over your life and the result is a lack of sleep which leads to lack of patience which started with a lack of humility.

Especially in our sedentary society we need to be extra aware of the need to not get soft physically. It will derail you spiritually and lead to all kinds of psychological illness and physiological illness. Pills are necessary but not the solution. If you’re on meds you have to realize the meds are there for you to help you work towards the healing and solution. Every doctor will tell you that because it’s truth. (I know there are unique situations where what I’m saying is over-simplified).

Lord thank you for the body I’ve been entrusted with. You’ve allowed me a body that’s been designed for your purposes. Give me the humility and knowledge to care for it in a way that pleases you. Amen
