“Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue” James 3:4-5
The tongue is our rudder which guides the entire course of our lives. God created the universe with His words. We are created in God’s likeness and image and we too create and frame our reality with our words. I have the power to speak words of life that will encourage and build up others around me, and I also have the power to speak words of death that could tear down, humiliate, and cheapen someone.
If I constantly tell my son he is a no-good loser he is going to begin to believe those things about himself and become that description. Be careful with the words “you always”. You always do a bad job at this etc. We are to season our speech with grace and seek to use words that edify those around us.
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” Col. 4:6
Lord thank you for language and words. I want to frame life building sentences today that will lift up others around me. Thank you for giving us Your Word to guide us and train us in how to speak. Amen
