Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30
Sometimes I wake up really early just to get a breather. You can get a lot of sleep and still find yourself strung out and at your wits end. The early morning is my only chance for solitude before my four boys wake up and the buzz of summer camp begins to hum around my house, or my pager starts barking at me to respond to some emergency.
We need perspective. All the pressures we put on ourselves are often times blown out of proportion in our heads. Also, I find we worry about a certain kind of holiness in our lives that is not really holiness it’s just some kind of fear of man perculating in our heads. I need to stay the course and I need to be me.
I have a lot of questions I don’t need the answers to. Sometimes I’m afraid of failing and letting everyone down. Sometimes I’m frustrated at how much I’m just a regular guy. Sometimes my marriage gets shaky. Sometimes my kids act like gremlins. The list could go on and on. These are the things that can make us feel heavy. Today I need to yoke up to Christ. He is the lead ox not me. He can lead my life any direction he wants. He leads us to rest and his yoke is easy. Let Jesus carry the heavy end and enjoy the journey.
